ofr87-242--Largest Rivers in the United States
Rivers are considered large on the basis of one or more of three characteristics: total length from source to mouth, area of basin (watershed) drained by the stream, and average rate of flow (discharge) at the mouth.
River lengths or river-length data are affected not only by some of the natural and artificial causes noted in the preceding paragraph, but also by the precision of various techniques of measurement, by the scale of available maps or aerial photographs, and by somewhat arbitrary decisions.
For the Mississippi River system as a whole, the longest continuous river channel is from the Missouri River headwater source in Montana to the mouth of the Missouri to the Gulf of Mexico, a combined length of about 3,710 miles.

River History: Your river rights, for river navigability, river access, river conservation, canoeing, kayaking, ...
In England, some rivers and their banks were fenced off by the medieval Saxon and Norman kings, for private use by the kings and noblemen, but public rights to fish and boat were reaffirmed by Magna Charta in 1215.
On rivers that are navigable for title purposes, the beds and banks are public trust land up to the ordinary high water line, (not just a public easement,) and the adjacent private lands (or other types of government lands) begin at the ordinary high water line.
State governments can make factual determinations of title navigability based on the weight of the evidence, and they can affirm that various rivers are navigable.

The new United States, however, soon found that they badly needed revenue and one way to obtain it was placing tariffs on imported goods.
