I imagined what it would be like to scuba dive through the underground tunnel, with only the Riwaka Resurgence to guide me. I imagined it to be hard to maneuver, with stalactites and mites jutting into your way.
Ngarua Cave was a marvel of New Zealand's geology, and the Riwaka River was the one that carved it.

My Sunday drive took in the Riwaka River Resurgence which is a beautiful spot my family used to visit for picnics when I was a kid.
A short walk from the picnic area, through some virgin native bush, is the spot where the Riwaka River emerges from underground at the base of the Takaka Hill.
I must return to the Riwaka River Resurgence again soon with a bigger tripod and more time to explore.

During the recent wasp season, researchers from Adelaide University and Landcare Research in New Zealand have been collaborating to find out whether they will be effective against introduced wasps.

I thought you might want to post on the network page information about my discovery of a dry way into the Riwaka cave.
On the 18/4 I went walking through the bush around the Riwaka resurgence using a compass bearing and after only 1 hour found a strongly drafting hole which after only 2hours of pushing connected into the Riwaka cave system just upstream to the second sump.
Named Simply Sumpless this route not only opens up a kilometer of cave not previously accessible to above water beings but it also opens up the potential of further exploration.

The Rai and Riwaka are comparible in size but there is more open water along the Rai.
I've spotted nice fish in the Riwaka but there was no way to approach the fish or place a cast where they lay.
