Kalinga is a landlocked province of the Philippines in the Cordillera Administrative Region in Luzon.
Prior to 1995, Kalinga and Apayao used to be a single province named Kalinga-Apayao, until they were split into two to better service the needs of individual native tribes in the provinces.
It is said that in the Ibanag and Gaddang languages, Kalinga comes from the common noun “kalinga” which means “enemy”, “fighter”, or “headhunter”.

 Sun.Star Baguio - Soldiers clash with 15 robbers in Kalinga
Military troopers were deployed in Kalinga to beef up the police force following the killing of three policemen and the wounding of another last month by armed robbers, who swooped down a police precinct in Namabaran, Tabuk, the province's capital town.
Kalinga Gov. Macario Duguiang said the attack on police detachment was 'alarming' considering that the perpetrators acted like notorious bandits.
Duguiang then ordered the Kalinga PPO to reassign policemen from the more peaceful municipalities in the province to the capital town of Tabuk, where most of the reported crimes were committed.

Owing to the increase in hectarage, Kalinga’s hybrid-rice production also recorded a steady rise from 3,767 metric tons (MT) in the wet season of 2001 to 17,363 MT in the wet season of 2003.
The Mestizo varieties, developed by the national rice research and development network, were planted to 2,795 ha., or almost two-thirds of the area planted to commercial hybrid rice this season in Kalinga.

Of the firearms confiscated, 17 were cal. 38 revolvers, nine cal. 45 pistols, four shotguns, three 9mm pistols, two cal. 22 firearms, two cal. 5.56 armalite rifles, two hand grenades and one grenade launcher.
Chief Supt. Rowland Albano, PRO-CAR director, said 16 of these were confiscated in Baguio, nine in Abra, seven in Kalinga, four each in Benguet and Ifugao, three in Apayao and another two in Mt. Province.
He added 35 separate cases were also filed in various courts within the region, while one case was still undergoing a follow-up investigation as of presstime Friday.

TABUK, KalingaKalinga Police Provincial Director James Dogao does not believe that the shooting of the vehicle of Rep. Laurence Wacnang last April 29 in Ileb Nambaran on the TuguegaraoTabuk Road by unidentified men was an ambush.
In his report to the Police Regional Office in Camp Dangwa dated May 5, Dogao stated that Wacnang and seven other persons were returning to Tabuk from Rizal, Kalinga when upon reaching Ileb, one of the passengers, Dang-ao, noticed a person armed with a short firearm was standing on the left side of the road.
This prompted him to alert the driver who stepped on the gas, but the gunman still fired upon the vehicle, hitting the frame of the door on the side of the driver.

TABUK, Kalinga - President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo said today a flood control master plan had been mapped out for the Cordillera and the Sierra Madre regions as part of the government's reforestation program.
The President said the master plan was drawn in coordination with the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) and the local officials in the region in the wake of the outbreak of calamities that hit the country recently.
