Robert Lovett has been recognized as one of the most capable administrators to hold the office of secretary of defense and as a perceptive critic of defense organization.
Robert Abercrombie Lovett (14 September 1895 - 7 May 1986) was the fourth United States Secretary of Defense, serving in the cabinet of President Harry S. Truman from 1951 to 1953 and in this capacity, directed the Korean War.
The son of a judge, Lovett was born in Huntsville, Texas.

The first reference relating to an international orthopaedic association which eventually became SICOT, is found in a letter written by Robert William Lovett of Harvard University in Boston, U.S.A. Lovett wrote on November 25, 1913 that he had found enthusiastic support among his American colleagues for the formation of an international society of orthopaedic surgery.
All plans for the International Society were suspended during the First World War and until 1923, when Lovett, Putti and Sir Robert Jones met in Boston.
Lovett was a member of the American Orthopaedic Association, the oldest of all orthopaedic associations (founded in 1887).

His parents, William R. and Mollie (Taylor) Lovett, were also natives of this state, the former born in Ashley county and the latter in Union county, and both the Lovett and Taylor families came to Arkansas prior to the Civil War.
