Robert Apsrin and Esther Friesner used their formidable talents to interject humor and a futuristic setting in what is essentially a tale of conflict resolution, reconciliation and personal growth.
Given the authors, most readers will not be surprised to learn that the two main characters travel through a series of parallel attempts to achieve the same goal, dealing with witches, magicians, totem carvers and similar types while attempting to wrest control of a conglomerate.
The barbs uttered by these characters are reminiscent of the tone of Asprin's Myth series and stop just short of Piers Anthony and Spider Robinson for over-use of puns.
