Robert Baker Aitken (born 1917 in Philadelphia) is an American teacher of Zen Buddhism in the Harada-Yasutani (or Sanbo Kyodan) tradition, a blending of Soto and Rinzai schools.
In 1959, Robert Aitken and his wife Anne Hopkins Aitken moved to Hawai'i to be near his young son Thomas Laune Aitken.

He studied at Juilliard with Bernard Wagenaar, Vincent Persichetti and Robert Ward, graduating in 1950 after which he taught for two decades at Juilliard where he met Gerard Schwarz who was there studying trumpet.
Now that Schwarz is a prominent figure on the conducting scene he has championed Aitken's orchestral music extensively, conducting the first violin concerto, and the premiere of Symphony in 1999 (not 1998 as indicated in CD notes).
Aitken's writing seems devoid of melody as well as imagination, page after page of meandering note-spinning.

She was born June 17, 1905 in Fulton to Everton Aitken and [Mabel FEECE] RANNELLS.  She moved to North Vernon eight years ago from Akron.  She married Francis J. “Hass” CARITHERS in Martinsville on Sept. 15, 1935.  He died Nov. 21, 1972.
She was the great-granddaugher of Robert and Mary WALLACE AITKEN who migrated to Indiana from Kilbrachan, Scotland in 1814.  The Aitkens were among the first settlers and business operators in Liberty Township and are credited with building the first log house in Fulton.
Surviving with the husband are three sons, Robert L. [BROWN], Hyde Park, N.Y., Richard A. [BROWN], Valparaiso, and Jerry A. [BROWN], Lucerne; seven grandchildren; a brother, Clarence SWANSON, and two sisters, Sylvia SWANSON and Clarice SWANK, all of Twelve Mile.  Two sons and a brother preceded in death.

I became ill with Hodgkins' Disease, and underwent chemotherapy and radiation, which ultimately was at least temporarily cured.
