The late Robert H. "Sam" Baldock was an innovative highway engineer who left a lasting imprint upon the highways of the world.
Baldock used a graph accounting system he had learned while working for a power company and demonstrated that the bonds could be repaid.
Baldock turned to mathematics for a yardstick and devised the concept of geometric highway design, which was adopted by Oregon's Highway Commission in 1936 and as a national standard in 1946.

In The Last Days of the Giants, author Robert Baldock discusses how the economics and politics of business throughout the twentieth century have favored the growth of large corporations and how dramatic changes in the industrial environment in the next century will undermine the competitive advantage of large corporations.
Baldock suggests that the keys that drove the growth of large corporations were primarily related to the development of assembly line techniques, which enabled lower unit cost production based on economies of scale.
Growth, Baldock points out, can be achieved by three mechanisms, “build, buy, or ally,” with many firms opting for buy or ally because to build is slow and difficult.

From the beginning of this century until his death 20 years ago at age 97, he was revered by the musical world as one of the instrument's most sensitive interpreters.
