Robert Bonfiglio, guest artist for the Quad City Symphony Orchestra's Riverfront Pops Concert on Saturday, has been called "the Paganini of the harmonica" by the Los Angeles Times.
Bonfiglio, whose name is pronounced bone-feel-eo, was born in Fort Lewis, Wash. He started his musical career on the diatonic harmonica and played in several blues bands in his youth.
Bonfiglio earned a master's degree in composition from the Manhattan School of Music, studying with Charles Wuorinen and Charles Jones, and he took master classes with Aaron Copland and John Cage.

Bonfiglio worked at the Desert Inn from 1961 until his retirement in 1996.
Born Jan. 24, 1920, in Steubenville, Ohio, Bonfiglio began his gaming career in 1941 as a card dealer in the illegal gambling houses of northern Kentucky, which was not uncommon for early Southern Nevada casino workers.
Bonfiglio is survived by a sister, Frances Salancy.
