Calvert’s star had begun to rise and he was appointed clerk of the Privy Council in 1608 and served as a member of Parliament.
Thus George Calvert, who had started his career with limited financial resources and hailing from a austere family, used his natural abilities and education to become a favorite at court and was able to place himself in a position to obtain favors necessary to realize his goals of planting a colony in the New World.
Calvert was aware that Catholicism would never again occupy the position that it had before the Reformation in England and his fellow Catholics, at best, would be a religious minority in a predominantly Protestant country.

Robert Calvert - Music Downloads - Online
Bio: A solo performer and the space-rock band Hawkwind's "resident poet," Robert Calvert was born in Pretoria, South Africa in 1945.
Upon meeting Hawkwind guitarist Dave Brock, Calvert became a satellite member of the group, infrequently appearing during their live sets to recite poems and dramatic monologues; in 1972 he wrote their massive hit "Silver Machine," although his original vocals were later overdubbed by bassist (and future Motorhead kingpin) Lemmy Kilmister.
Calvert's vocal did remain intact on the follow-up Hawkwind single, "Urban Guerrilla," a portrait of a terrorist which was quickly deleted in the wake of an IRA bombing in London.

In 1850 Robert Calvert (for whom the town was later named), was the first of numerous cotton planters that came to the Calvert area to establish plantations along the fertile Brazos River delta that lay between the Brazos River and the Little Brazos River.
Calvert was definitely a boom town and like other towns that had experienced explosive growth, there were frequent shoot outs, stacks of gold piled high on the tables of the gambling house and barrels of whiskey kept in grocery stores for cash customers.
Calvert's commercial district developed in the last three decades of the nineteenth century and followed the pattern found in most nineteenth century Texas towns, in that the first businesses were located in wooden false front structures which were replaced in time by one- or two-story masonry structures.

Released to accompany one of the best rock novels of all time, former Hawkwind vocalist Calvert's Hype is part concept album, part soundtrack, and wholly the most underrated project Calvert was ever involved in.
Of course, all 12 are unmistakably Calvert, caught midway between the quirky pop transmutation of the late-'70s Hawkwind/Hawklords freakshow, and the dense subversive soundscapes of his own next album, Freq.
It is fashionable, even among Calvert's greatest admirers, to speak glowingly only of his first two solo sets and to overlook the remainder as mere works in progress -- a conspiracy aided by the unknown record labels, zero budgets, and failing health which dogged his final years.
