Forensic scientist in crime lab tied to wrongful convictions in Oregon
Vaughan's role in the high-profile Oregon case is a surprise to State Patrol crime-lab officials, according to director Barry Logan.
Vaughan's ties to the Oregon case came to light after his name appeared in a Seattle Post-Intelligencer investigative series in July on flaws in oversight of the State Patrol crime lab.
Vaughan discovered a second alleged gunpowder flake in 1986, this time sending half of it to the FBI crime lab in Washington, D.C., to verify his conclusion that it matched particles found on the victim.

Vaughan responded with an answer and a counterclaim for defamation and abuse of process against the Thayers and a third-party complaint for defamation and abuse of process against their attorney.
Vaughan filed a motion for summary judgment on November 7, 2002, and the Thayers filed a cross motion for summary judgment.
Vaughan testified that they did, in fact, prepare a complaint under the common law for assault and battery, intentional infliction of emotional distress, interference with advantageous business relationship and negligent infliction of emotional distress, but that the Thayers never authorized the filing of the complaint.

Like a great many past and present denizens of Toronto (including myself), neither Robert Charles Wilson nor Robert J. Sawyer was born in the city: they're immigrants, willing or not, and therefore capable of seeing the place with special clarity.
Robert Sawyer has contributed to the National Gestalt in a more "noticeable" way simply because his work is more widely read than Wilson's.
From "A Glance at the Works of Robert Charles Wilson," commentary written by the author dated March 9, 2002, and posted on his website.

The consecration rite itself, according to the Catholic Encyclopedia, is superior to a mere blessing, which may be performed by a priest.
But the biggest surprise of all, at least to those who believe Westminster Abbey to be holy Christian real estate "in perpetuum," and that the magic rite of consecration means anything, must be one of those now buried in the Nave.
