Robert Clive, 1st Baron Clive - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Robert Clive, 1st Baron Clive of Plassey (September 29, 1725 – November 22, 1774) was the statesman and general who established the empire of British India.
Clive was aided by the population of the city who helped to fortify the position and made successful sallies against the enemy.
Clive told him, in reply, with characteristic haughtiness, that his father was a usurper, that his army was a rabble, and that he would do well to think twice before he sent such poltroons into a breach defended by English soldiers.
