choosing the chosen - San Diego Jewish Journal
David Ellenstein is one of the many Jewish lovers of Chaim Potok’s “The Chosen.” But he didn’t read the book merely because a teacher assigned it or friends had recommended it.
As the son of character actor Robert Ellenstein and a Screen Actors Guild member himself by age 19, Ellenstein, then 23, read the book before auditioning for the role of Danny Saunders in the 1980 movie version.
While Ellenstein didn’t require actors to be Jewish to play their parts, he did have one non-negotiable requirement.

Written by Glen Gordon Caron and directed by Robert Butler, the "Moonlighting" pilot aired as a two-hour television movie on March 3, 1985 (in retrospect the "in like a lion, out like a lamb" idea certainly fits this show).
The chief charms here were both the amount of dialogue that Caron was cramming into the script and the sparks that were flying between the two stars.
