Robert F. Kennedy Memorial Stadium, informally known as RFK Stadium, is a professional sports stadium that opened in the fall of 1961.
The stadium was renamed for slain presidential candidate Robert Kennedy in 1969.
The stadium hosted the first 1962 All-Star Game, which was attended by Robert Kennedy's brother, President John F. Kennedy (in whose Administration Robert Kennedy served as Attorney General) and the 1969 All-Star Game, which was played in the daytime after a rainout the night before.

BallparkTour - Future Washington D.C. Ballpark
A majority of the 14 baseball-only stadiums constructed in the past 13 years mimic the traditional look ushered in by Oriole Park, which was viewed as an escape from bloated, multipurpose bowls -- such as Washington's Robert F. Kennedy Memorial Stadium, which once was shared by the Redskins and baseball's Senators.
The proposal document specifies a desire for a stadium that is "timeless, unique in the nation's capital and its waterfront setting, and representative of 21st-century architectural ideals," Mr.
But over the next decade, stadiums such as Jacobs Field in Cleveland, Ameriquest Field in Arlington, Texas, and Coors Field in Denver copied many of the Baltimore elements, to the point where Camden Yards became seen by some as simply a new version of the cookie-cutter design it was intended to replace.

Nearly 250,000 tickets sold by the Washington Nationals have gone unused at Robert F. Kennedy Memorial Stadium, a no-show rate that is slightly higher than normal for professional teams and could mean that the District earns less revenue than expected.
This in-stadium revenue is crucial because officials intend to use that money to help finance construction bonds to build a $535 million stadium project along the Anacostia River.
With each game at RFK, the Nationals sold an average of 32,014 tickets, but the number of fans in the stadium averaged 23,585.
