Irsay was hospitalized on several occasions in the past year and the team confirmed last November that he was in critical condition.
A crowd of 20,000 greeted Irsay at the Hoosier Dome on April 2nd, 1984 and Irsay called the rally "the greatest thrill I've had in football." Irsay's 37-year-old son, Jim, is currently the team's senior executive vice president, general manager and chief operating officer.
Irsay was born in Chicago and graduated from the University of Illinois.

LAWRENCE † Robert A. Fecik, Cedar Falls, Iowa, has been selected as the 1998 recipient of the highest award bestowed on graduate students by the University of Kansas Department of Medicinal Chemistry.
Fecik received the Robert Irsay-Norman Dahle Memorial Award in Medicinal Chemistry during a ceremony in August at Malott Hall on the KU campus.
The Irsay-Dahle award is named in the memory of Robert Irsay and Norman Dahle, who completed doctoral degrees in medicinal chemistry at KU.

Robert Irsay, who brought the Colts from Baltimore in 1984, died last Jan. 14, more than a year after he suffered the stroke.
The time of his death was listed at 10:15 a.m., the same time Wednesday's news conference was scheduled to announce the new lease that will keep the team in Indianapolis for at least 10 more years.

Robert Irsay was buried Jan. 18 in Indianapolis.
