Elizabeth Hanford "Liddy" Dole (born July 29, 1936) was elected to the United States Senate in 2002 to represent North Carolina for a term ending in 2009.
Dole ran for the Republican nomination in the US presidential election of 2000, but pulled out of the race in October 1999 before any of the primaries, largely on account of inadequate fundraising.

Robert Joseph Dole was born on July 22, 1923 in Russell, Kansas, a small plains town.
Finally, in 1996, Dole was given the Republican presidential nominee, though he was led to a defeat by President Bill Clinton, who seemed destined to win reelection from the start, as the Democratic Party had painted the Republicans as uncaring.
Dole showed his desperate attempt to win when he, on the final days of the campaign, asked third party challenger Ross Perot to drop out of the race and endorse him as a candidate.
