UCSC's assistant chief of police, Robert Jones, remained in critical condition at a San Jose hospital on Monday after he was struck by a car while riding his bicycle on Highway 1 north of Santa Cruz last week.
Jones, who was hired as a campus police officer 13 years ago and promoted to the department's No. 2 post this past July, was struck by an SUV as he rode southbound two miles south of Davenport.
Jones, who rewrote the campus bike path access rules in 2000, said riders of motorized bicycles or mopeds are at risk sharing narrow roads with automobiles, buses, and trucks.

JONES, ROBERT M. Robert M. Jones, a mixed-blood Choctaw leader, operated large plantations and shipping concerns in Indian Territory.
The Choctaw and Creek tribes elected Jones president of the "United Nations of the Indian Territory," and he was one of the most ardent secessionists in the territory during the Civil War.
Jones also negotiated the Choctaws' post-war treaty with the federal government, which included the past payment of the "net proceeds." Jones regained his pre-war wealth by retaining his property and businesses and by selling forty-five hundred bales of cotton stored in New Orleans.

Robert Trent Jones was the first recipient of the ASGCA's Donald Ross Award for outstanding contributions to golf course architecture.
In 1981 Jones was given the William D. Richardson Award by the GWAA in recognition of his consistent outstanding contributions.
But the name Robert Trent Jones was still the most recognizable in golf, and that year two courses were named in his honor, one a new design, one an existing course (The Robert Trent Jones Golf Course at Cornell University).
