A daughter of Sir William Lindsay of Rossie was wooed, won, and forsaken by the Duke of Rothesay, eldest son of Robert III., and it was in anger for this treatment of his daughter that Lindsay himself took part in the plot which sent the dissolute young prince to die by starvation at Falkland.
To-day the Clan Lindsay Society is one of the largest and most influential of the bodies which perpetuate the traditions of their name in the past, and utilise the spirit of race and patriotism for benevolent purposes in the present.

Born in Battersea, London, Robert Lindsay won the British AAA 440 yd championships in 1921.
At the Antwerp Olympics, Lindsay reached to the quarterfinals of 400 m and ran the second leg in the British 4x400 m relay team, which took gold with 3.22.2.

During the years that followed the Crimea campaign Robert Lindsay was quartered partly in the barracks of Portsmouth and partly in London, where he became a conspicuous figure in society.
Robert Loyd-Lindsay maintained a lively interest in military matters and, at the outbreak of the Franco-Prussian war in 1870, he took urgent steps to found the National Society for Aid to the Sick and Wounded in War which later became the British Red Cross Society.

But besides this nemesis of a role, Robert Lindsay has become a household name for other characters as well (for which he is probably very thankful).
On stage, there have been many Shakespeare roles, in 1991 he won a BAFTA for his role as Michael Murray in GBH, and of course there are the Horatio Hornblower dramas, which are shown in the USA on the AandE channel.
