Michels observed that the national and economic conflicts in modern Europe were vast in scale and revealed sharply sensed injustices, and also that sex antagonisms are becoming more acute.
Michels' discussions of sexuality, sexual morality, and the relations of the sexes had as its stimulus "the new sexual ethic" advocated by feminists.
Michels was virtually alone in the sociological tradition in seeking to illuminate the "struggle for love" between men and women by reference to the "erotic coquetry" in the sexual behavior of "lower animals".

European Proponents of Sociology Prior To World War I. Chapter 3. Oligarchy in organisations: Robert Michels
Robert Michels was active at the beginning of our century, and succeeded in defining a problem that was to become highly topical in its latter half: the trend of democratic interest organizations towards oligarchy.
The theses that compose Michels' theory of oligarchy are the real message of the book, and social democracy and the trade-union movement in imperial Germany are merely illustrations of that message.
Intellectuals in popular movements outside the socialist tradition are also called upon, after reading Michels' work, to search for mechanisms that ward off or mitigate the oligarchic tendencies in their organizations.

Please analyze the attached paraphrase of Michels's theory of the inevitability of oligarchy
Michels argues that as soon as human cooperative activities attain the size and complexity which warrant the term "organization", technical expertise is required if the enterprise is not to founder.
Michels insists that all attempts at mass control of an organization involves fatal amateurishness in an age of large scale organization.
But Michels does defend democracy: it allows the emergence of a number of rival parties, each led by an oligarchy, whose competition ensures a certain amount of indirect influence to those who support the parties through votes.

Michels, Robert (1876–1936) A German sociologist and economist who wrote on a wide range of issues including nationalism, fascism, secularism, power, élites, intellectuals, and social mobility.
He concluded that all organizations have oligarchical tendencies, a proposition which he formulated as an ‘iron law of oligarchy’;, which states that ‘it is organization which gives birth to the domination of the elected over the electors, of the mandatories over the mandators, of the delegates over the delegators.
Who says organizations says oligarchy.’ According to Michels, as a political party grows and becomes more bureaucratic, it is increasingly dominated by officials who are committed to internal organizational goals rather than social change, and by middle-class intellectuals who pursue their own personal objectives which are usually different from those of the party rank-and-file.

Let us therefore move on from a term, since Michels does not seem to be able to abandon it, to the question of the ‘training analyst’ (in French, analyste didacticien), and who, according to my respondent, is specifically responsible for the analysis of candidates in training.
Michels does, I think, betray some mischievousness when he purports to believe that the research to which I am referring is that advocated by an entire school of thought, objective research, which despite having limited uses is radically different from the clinical research indicated in my article.
It may be that my conceptual differences with Michels can be better understood in the light of the fact that Michels seems at no point to take account of the theme to which I return throughout my article, namely the transference that runs throughout the process from personal analysis to training.
