Born Robert Hugh Milliken on January 31, 1958 in Regina, Saskatchewan, he moved away from home as a teenager, and instead of immediately entering university went to Quebec City, where he worked as a waiter and caleche driver.
His friend, Environmental Studies professor Roger Keil, says Milliken's annual seminar series' posters for FES demonstrate the changing aesthetics of nature, culture and society during the past decade and show the emergence of a graphic artist's portfolio.
"Milliken's graphic design marks a departure from his earlier work in New York and Montreal, where his focus was mainly on the transformation of furniture into art objects.

COCOA BEACH—A Brevard County homeowner is facing a felony charge of filing a false insurance claim for allegedly claiming that renovation work to his home was the result of hurricane damage.
Milliken filed the fraudulent claim last September with Citizens Property Insurance Corporation for his home at 423 S. Atlantic Ave., claiming that Hurricane Frances caused nearly $60,000 in personal property damage.
Investigators, however, determined that Milliken contracted with Mack Mosier of Trade Wind Builders to remodel his residence, and the work began on Aug. 10, 2004.

Taking composition classes with Robert is good because he pushes you to do well, but doesn't grade you harshly if you have a different vision than he does.
The only thing he teaches is to avoid passive voice, to use more dialogue, and to describe more.
