Prim's algorithm - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Prim's algorithm is an algorithm in graph theory that finds a minimum spanning tree for a connected weighted graph.
The algorithm was discovered in 1930 by mathematician Vojtech Jarnik and later independently by computer scientist Robert C. Prim in 1957 and rediscovered by Dijkstra in 1959.
Using a simple binary heap data structure, Prim's algorithm can be shown to run in time which is O(mlog n) where m is the number of edges and n is the number of vertices.

 Robert Mapplethorpe's extraordinary vision
Inside, it's neat and prim, with pristine whitewashed walls and twisting spiral staircases.
In mid-1989, there was an uproar over the work of another photographer, Andres Serrano, whose "Piss Christ" -- a murky, moody photograph of the crucified Christ submerged in the artist's urine -- had been partially funded by a $15,000 grant from the National Endowment for the Arts.
Suddenly the search for other publicly funded, "inappropriate" art was on, and Robert Mapplethorpe's work became the next target.

In the mid 60's, scientists at the Math Center were among the pioneers of the modern theory of scheduling, particularly in the analysis of approximation algorithms and in multiprocessor scheduling (Ed Coffman, Ron Graham, David Johnson and Mike Garey).
A prime example is the competitive analysis of approximation algorithms (Graham, and later, Danny Sleator and Robert Tarjan), which originated in the Math Center during the mid 60's and soon became an essential tool in algorithmic studies cutting across virtually all of the engineering disciplines.

On April 21, U. Senator Jon Kyl visited the Library and recorded the children's book Slim and Miss Prim by Robert Kinerk for our collection.
Slim and Miss Prim (AZC2562), a picture book published under the Rising Moon imprint of Northland Publishing in Flagstaff, is the rollicking tale of how the determined Miss Prim rescues her kidnapped cowhand Slim from a gang of local rustlers.
Senator Kyl did a wonderful job with the narration and we enjoyed his time with us and appreciate that he made time in his busy schedule to come to the library to narrate this great addition to our collection of children's books.
