Robert Ryan, one of the most brilliant and versatile actors of his time, created a gallery of unforgettable characters during his thirty year career, yet never received the recognition he deserved.
Ryan's Westerns and his war films play endlessly on TV, and he is such a film noir icon that many of the excellent books on the subject devote entire sections to discussions of his artistry.
I was likewise mesmerized by Ryan's quirky interpretation of the psychopathic ex-G.I. in Crossfire.

Although a sexual component is introduced, we wonder if the music box is Ryan's memory of his mother, as the treatment alludes to Lupino as a mother figure by her serving him milk, and by the way he instinctively slips his hand into hers in a moment of confidence.
For such a fine actor, Robert Ryan is not widely known, he was shy and not big on self-promotion, so that may be why he didn't get some of the starring roles in big budget films.

Cancer Research - A Super Fraud?
In fact, some analysts consider that the cancer industry is sustained by a policy of deliberately facing in the wrong direction.
For instance, in the late 1970s, after studying the policies, activities, and assets of the major U.S. cancer institutions, the investigative reporters Robert Houston and Gary Null concluded that these institutions had become self-perpetuating organisations whose survival depended on the state of no cure.
Such fear, however unconscious, may result in resistance and hostility to alternative approaches in proportion as they are therapeutically promising.
