Robert Schuller is an ordained minister of the Reformed Church in America.
Schuller makes no bones about the fact that his church has some rather schmaltzy furnishings -- like a number of water fountains that begin spraying when he presses a button in the pulpit -- and that their purpose is to impress the unchurched.
While my first negative impression of Schuller was somewhat modified after a week’s exposure to his institute and the testimonies of other pastors who spoke in glowing terms of how their own ministries had taken on new life after they followed some of Schuller’s principles, I still have some deep theological problems with these principles.

Schuller credits close friend Norman Vincent Peale "with fine tuning his own positive faith and laying the foundation for his own Possibility Thinking that was to come." In September of 1959, ground-breaking ceremonies were held at the location of the present church property in Garden Grove, California.
Schuller was traveling to New York City, on the June 28, 1997 cross-country flight, to speak at the memorial service of Betty Shabazz, the widow of Malcolm X. Schuller denied assaulting the flight attendant, but admitted that he might have touched him.
Schuller indicated that he was making attempts for reconciliation with the man. In August of 1997, Schuller pleaded not guilty to a count of misdemeanor assault, but then read an apology in court and agreed to pay an $1,100 fine and undergo a six-month diversion program.
