The name of Robert Adam may not be a household word (at least not outside the UK), but if you want to visit stately homes throughout Britain you will inevitably and repeatedly meet up with it.
Robert Adam was born in Kirkaldy, Fifeshire in 1728, the son of a stonemason.
Robert Adam died in 1792 at the age of 64.

In Scots, "the Scot" is a common byname.
"Robert the Scot" could be the name of someone living in England or in southern Scotland.

Scot took a lot of criticism in his own time and later, but it was he who designed the first coins struck by the new federal government.
Congress authorized the US Mint in 1793 and Thomas Jefferson chose Robert Scot to be the chief engraver.

I have been looking for ages regarding any information at all on Robert (don't know middle name) SHANKS b abt 1911 and died 11/11/1997 in Kimarnock Scotland.
He was married to an unknown woman and had one child Robert Dumigan SHANKS b 9th Jan 1941.
Robert the yonger migrated to Australia in 1964 with no passport, no birth certificate, the only ID he had was an entry permit to Australia, he never had contact with his father and/or relatives in Scotland again.

The Flowing Hair half dimes of 1794-95 were designed by Robert Scot, the chief engraver of the Mint.
His design was different than that found on Birch’s 1792 half dismes (the spelling of “disme” would gradually evolve to “dime.” On the 1792 coins, the denomination is spelled HALF DISME).
Robert Scot was instructed to create a new, uniform design for the current silver denominations.
