Robert Smigel - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Robert Smigel (born February 7, 1960) is an American humorist, animator and performer best known for his Saturday Night Live animations and as the puppeteer behind Triumph, the Insult Comic Dog.
Smigel later became the first head writer at Late Night with Conan O'Brien, where he created numerous successful comedy bits, including one where Smigel performed only the lips of public figures which were superimposed on photos of the actual people.
Smigel's father is Irwin Smigel, DDS (aka The Father of Cosmetic Dentistry, [1]) and the president of the American Society for Dental Aesthetics for over 25 years.

Smigel's 'TV Funhouse' animates 'SNL' showcase
Smigel uses treasured animation models such as Disney and Hanna-Barbera to lampoon the innocence of bygone Saturday mornings via pop culture broadsides.
In his comedy, Smigel's anger is resonant; he reimagines the seasonal Clay-mation classic "Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer" as "The Narrator That Ruined Christmas," the Burl Ives character stopping midintroduction to say he can't care anymore about an abominable snowman.
The version is, of course, unspeakably racist; Smigel's is the kind of subversive comedy that tends to elicit a simultaneous combination of laughter and groaning (buggery, to that end, is a favorite theme).

Robert Smigel, creator of Saturday Night Live's "Saturday TV Funhouse" animated shorts, premired his new Comedy Central show TV Funhouse last night.
Smigel, a cheery fellow of 40 with wire-rim eyeglasses and a tangle of curly hair, flashes a grin of fulfillment at the screen.
Still, TV Funhouse is a cakewalk compared with Smigel's fling with mainstream prime time: As producer of ABC's The Dana Carvey Show in 1996, he battled unsavvy sponsors and a less-than-approving network.
