Robert Field Stockton (20 August 1795–7 October 1866) was a United States naval officer, notable in the capture of California during the Mexican-American War.
Robert was appointed a midshipman in the U.S. Navy at the age of 16, serving at sea and ashore during the War of 1812.
Captain Robert F. Stockton died at Princeton, New Jersey, and is buried in the Princeton Cemetery.

William Tennent Stockton was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania on October 9, 1812, the fourth child of William T. and Anna Williamson Stockton.
Stockton served with the Second U.S. Artillery in the Second Seminole War before resigning his commission in 1836 (the same year that his brother, Richard Lucius Stockton was killed at the Alamo).
Stockton received a captain's commission in the Confederate army in May 1861 and for the first months of the war he served as an inspecting and mustering officer, but he soon was assigned to the First Florida Cavalry Regiment.

Richard "The Emigrant" Stockton (1628 - 1707) of the New Jersey family line has a much researched family with a rich history, but little is known about his life or family in England, who were his parents, possible siblings ?.
We now know, from DNA testing, that the Richard Stockton of New Jersey family line is a separate and distinct family with no matches to the Robert and Davis lines.
