Trimble County, located in Northern Kentucky, was established in 1837, and was named in honor of Robert Trimble, a Chief Justice of the Kentucky Court of Appeals who was appointed to the U.S. Supreme Court in 1826.
Trimble County is known as the "Fruit Basket of Kentucky." The county's topography was perfect for settlers - the land was level and fertile; the nearby Ohio River and city of Louisville made transport of goods for sale easy.
Trimble County, due to its proximity to the Ohio River, was one of the primary destinations of slaves who attempted escape from their Kentuckian owners.

He was appointed major of the 26th United States infantry, 18 March, 1813, brevetted lieutenant-colonel, 17 September, 1814, for gallantry at the sortie at Fort Erie, in which he was severely wounded, and became lieutenant-colonel of the 1st infantry, 30 November, 1814.
