Robert was born on February 22, 1918, and weighed a normal eight pounds, six ounces.
In 1984 a citizens committee organized efforts to immortalize Robert, and in 1985 a bronze statue (photo), was erected on the campus of the Southern Illinois University School of Dental Medicine.
Robert was born February 22, 1918 to Harold F. and Addie (Johnson) Wadlow on Monroe Street in Alton, Illinois, weighing 8.7 pounds.

Robert Wesley Troup, Jr., (Bobby Troup) who was best known as Dr. Joe Early in the TV Emergency was born on October 18, 1918 at Harrisburg, Pennsylvania.
When Troup came in, the men were living in tents, with filthy latrine conditions, and nothing anywhere to relieve the stress of their condition.
Captain Troup took a haul ass attitude, and with the help of the men, created Quonset huts, new latrines, a nightclub, a basketball court and team, a boxing ring, a jazz band, an orchestra, and he somehow manuvered a friend to come and install a miniature golf course.

In a lawsuit against Warner Brothers Motion Pictures, Troup County Warden Harold Hardy, along with former Campbell County Warden Paul Phillips, and the Secretary of the Georgia Prison Commission Judge Vivian L. Stanley, sought damages for their portrayals in the film as being and inhumane in their treatment of convicts.
Whether Robert Elliot Burns spoke the absolute truth is debatable, but he is one prisoner who made a difference --- in Troup County, Georgia and throughout the South.

His great-grandson Robert Heysham Sayre, through his daughter Ann, was one of the richest men in the country, being both chief engineer of the Lehigh Valley railroad and a founder and managing director of the Bethlehem Steel company.
