Roberto Alomar Velázquez (born February 5, 1968) is a former Major League Baseball player, considered by many to be one of the best second basemen to have ever played the game.
A native of Salinas, Puerto Rico, Alomar was a switch-hitter and threw right-handed.
Alomar broke into the Major Leagues in 1988 with the San Diego Padres, where he was regarded as an excellent fielder with speed and a solid bat.

Prior to the game, Alomar was smiling and very talkative in the clubhouse, but he left the ballpark before the end of the fifth inning.
