Roberto Baggio (born February 18, 1967) is an Italian former footballer, among the most thechnically gifted and popular players in the world throughout the 1990s.
Baggio was the cornerstone of the Italian team during the 1994 FIFA World Cup, leading them to the final after a disappointing start.
Baggio finished tied for second in the tournament in goals scored and was named one of the top three players.

Baggio immediately showed off his skill on the field by scoring and assisting on many goals, and his efforts paid off when, in 1982, a scout discovered him and encouraged him to play for Vicenza (which was then Serie C1 league) for $500.
Baggio had a good run with Vicenza, and took the team from Serie C1 to Serie B. In 1985, Baggio was sold to Fiorentina, a Serie A team.

In the semi-final Roberto suffered a serious thigh injury and even though the doctors told him not to play, Roberto knew that he could not let the Italian people down, so he risked more serious injury to his thigh and he took the field on the day of the final.
