Viola won the Cy Young Award with a 24-7 record in 1988, leading the AL in wins and winning percentage and finishing third in ERA (2.64) and strikeouts (193).
Key to Viola's success was a changeup taught to him by Twins pitching coach Johnny Podres; it gave Viola more confidence in his fastball, and would eventually become his signature pitch.
Viola made just three starts for the Reds, and six for Toronto in 1996; his last win came in May at Kansas City's Kauffman Stadium, the site of his very first.

Though Argentina was already in serious economic trouble when he took office last March, Viola led his resource-rich country into the worst economic crisis in its 165-year history.
Viola's successor, junta member and army commander-in-chief General Leopoldo Fortunate Galtieri, does not take office armed with much confidence from his fellow Argentines, who are deeply cynical about the ability of the generals to govern.
Galtieri will be the third military ruler, after Jorge Rafael Videla and Viola, since the 1976 coup that overthrew the government of Isabelita Perón and resulted in a bloody campaign to rid the country of leftist terrorists.

In the B-flat major viola sonata, the best-known work here, Diaz and his accompanist Robert Koenig take the reflective Maestoso preface quite sedately.
Although the duo could have managed greater dramatic contrast in the brief animato section part way through, Koenig highlights it later in the reprise, where it's heard as an accompaniment to the main theme.
Both players attack the finale with relish, yet the viola's taxing figurations are never overshadowed, even when the piano writing becomes similarly complex.

According to this cable, Argentine Army Chief Viola reportedly ordered orally that “independent operations, unless specially authorized, were to end.” The ambiguity of the oral orders reveals a key mechanism used later on by commanders and subordinates to deny responsibility for human rights violations during the dirty war.
Mendizabal and Croatto were terrorists, he said, who were eliminated – ‘with my authorization,’ Viola added -- in the course of their attempts to carry out ten assassinations in Argentina.

The new label, and availability of fresh money for the payment of Federation dues, were announced Friday by city sports commissioner Eugenio Giani as Florentine fans and former Fiorentina stars vowed for a quick return of the team to the elite division of Italian soccer.
A solution must be found immediately because Florentine fans do not deserve this," said international star Roberto Baggio, the forward whose transfer from Fiorentina to Juventus in 1990 touched off a revolt by fans.
Portuguese midfielder Manuel Rui Costa, who moved from Fiorentina to AC Milan last year, said the Florentine team "is part of the soccer heritage of this country and must be salvaged."
