Robins AFB has the largest runway in Georgia and is capable of accommodating the world's largest aircraft, including the C-5B and NASA's space shuttle piggybacked on a Boeing 747.

The Air Force awarded the C-5 maintenance contract to Robins last month, choosing the central Georgia base over private contractors bidding to keep the work in Texas, where it had been done at Kelly Air Force Base.
Robins officials also plan to bid on the maintenance contract for the fourth aircraft, the C-17, in 2003.

Base leaders, along with representatives from New York-based manufacturer Plug Power Inc., Atlanta-based Logan Energy Corp., the Army Corps of Engineers Research and Development Center and others, gathered outside of the base's Ground Water Treatment Plant for the unveiling of 10 five-kilowatt fuel cells commissioned in early October.
This program was a year-long demonstration-validation Department of Defense, Air Force program to ultimately seek alternative, environmentally-sound fuel sources for troops in deployed locations, as well as backup power sources for stateside bases.

To obtain a base pass, students must: 1) be a U.S. citizen; 2) show a valid driver's license; 3) present current vehicle registration; 4) have proof of current vehicle insurance; 5) be properly registered for an RRC class.
Working closely with Base education officials and the command structure, the Resident Center has had a dramatic impact on the level of educational achievement of the military and civilian workforce at Robins.
All military personnel and their dependents, as well as RAFB civilian employees and retirees, are eligible to take RRC classes, which also are open to the general public on a space-available basis.
