Yes, this page is devoted to Robotman, a strip that began in 1985 and is one of the few newspaper comics that's actually changed for the better.
Over the years, the character of Robotman lost the heart on his chest and gained a lightning bolt instead.
After our beloved Robotman left in the late 1990s, the strip continued (and flourished), and eventually it was renamed Monty after its new star.

Robotman (completely unrelated to a DC Comics character of the same name) didn't go over very well in cartoons, Little Golden Books, toy lines and other places he was marketed.
In fact, within a couple of years, Robotman the licensing phenomenon was pretty much dead in the water, but Robotman the comic strip was just getting started — a fact that can be explained only by public interest in Meddick's cartooning.
In 2000, Meddick involved Robotman (whose strip, by then, was titled Robotman & Monty) in a lengthy and complicated extraterrestrial story, certain aspects of which were strongly reminiscent of various Star Trek episodes.

This Robotman was Cliff Steele, who had been an internationally famous sportsman until a near-fatal racecar crash brought on the extreme surgery that left him more a machine than a man. After that, his powerful robot body deemed unfair competition, his sports career was over.
Robotman continued as a Doom Patrol member, without stepping out into adventures of his own, as long as that group lasted.
The others remained dead, but Robotman fell in with a new group calling itself The Doom Patrol and claiming continuity with the old one.

Robotman, the Brain, and M. Mallah appear to be destroyed in this story, but survive, as revealed in their respective next appearances in Showcase #94.
Steele joined their short-lived team until it disbanded, then went into service a third time when evidence was unearthed that led to the discovery of the still-living Negative Man. Eventually, Niles Caulder resurfaced as well and talked Steele into staying on as the core of the fourth incarnation of the Doom Patrol.
This is referenced in JLA #94 when the character resembling Robotman is told by a wheelchair bound character that he (and the rest of the team) is not ready to go out into the field.
