Robotron 64 has been a game a long time in coming -- its original release date was scheduled for around September last year, but for various reasons it didn''t appear when planned.
Robotron 2084, the distant ancestor of Robotron 64, is arguably the greatest shoot-''em-up of all time, a title it frequently fights over with Defender.
The robotrons (for ''tis they) decide that the world would be a lot better off without us, and looking at the programme lineup on ITV of a Saturday it''s hard to disagree.

ROBOTRON Z1013 - computing in the GDR
Robotron was a famous computer brand in the former communist countries in Eastern Europe.
An exception at this rule was the Robotron Z1013, which appeared in 1984, five years before the fall of the Berlin Wall.
Another problem was that Robotron manufactured the first model (Z1013.01) with a certain amount of chips rejected for industrial use, because of the chronic shortage of quality chips.

 Arcade Games: Mastering Robotron:2084
Robotron 2084 is unlike any other video game around.
Designed and programmed by Eugene Jarvis, the creator of both Defender and Stargate (all manufactured by Williams Electronics), Robotron is one of the most dazzling arcade games released in 1982.
The scenario for Robotron is as follows: In the year 2084, technology has become so advanced that our own creations, the robots, decide that the human race is expendable.

Multi-Williams Conversion - Robotron, Joust and Stargate
Stargate and Robotron, for example, share identically-constructed cocktail cabinets; the control panels can be swapped in about a minute, and that's including the time to insert the adaptor.
When playing Robotron, there would thus be two ways to move or fire upwards; either by pressing up on the joystick or by pressing the newly-installed "FLAP" button.
Assuming you started with a Robotron cabinet, plug the Robotron 27512 into the ROM daughterboard, and the Robotron 2732 into the adaptor on the sound board.

Robotron is the undisputed king of the arcade that redefined those thrill-a-second games where the odds are overwhelming, the graphics are fantastic, and the foes are deadly.
Robotron, like so many of the Williams classic arcade tyrants, starts out on the “pretty difficult” end of the scale and very quickly progresses to “absurdly difficult.” Perhaps not as quickly as Sinistar or Stargate, but certainly more so than Defender or Joust.
Some final little miscellaneous revelations concerning Robotron: when you are ticked off at that girl who dumped you because you’re perfect and so forth, you can simply allow all of the female humanoids to get wasted by the Hulks.

Robotron X is a good revamp of the original coin-op hit Robotron: 2084.
As one of the earliest attempts to revive arcade classics, Robotron X plays good and looks great, although the Playstation version, with its dual directional keypads on each controller, is a better platform for this game.
New species of enemy robotrons are added, and if you like (or dread) dealing with dozens of robots on the screen, you’ll find the increased intensity in Robotron X even more hectic and challenging.

The concepts from the original game are the same in Robotron X. Although all of the bad guys are 3-D rendered, and the playfield scrolls in and out (depending on where the hero is), not much else has changed in terms of gameplay.
Robotron X even includes bosses and bonus rounds for those players who complete the primary objective and rescue all family members.

 IGN: Robotron 64 Preview
What may push Robotron 64 (tentatively titled) above its brethren versions is that the Player 1 team has had more time to tweak, fix, and improve the game, which has been in the design process for nearly one and a half years.
Robotron 64 will feature 200 (yes, 200!) levels, with the levels shifting in a kind of gradient pattern every 10 levels.
But this Robotron version will include an ending, which, for a game that used a high score in the old arcade tradition of completion, is more than just a small alteration.
