	Robotron: 2084 - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
		Robotron: 2084 (often simply called "Robotron") is an arcade game created in 1982 by the company Vid Kidz (Eugene Jarvis and Larry DeMar) for Williams Electronics.
		Each level, or “wave” of Robotron consists of a small humanoid mutant ("the last hope of mankind"), representing the player, in the center of a swarm of enemy robots.
		An original iteration of Robotron was a real-time version of a game called "Robots", originally written in BASIC, where the player would attempt to lure robots towards electrified barriers that would destroy them.

		The player fires faster in Robotron 64, I believe, which is closer to the original.
		There is also some annoying "jitter" to the playfield in Robotron 64 that I notice mostly after the level has finished, so I don't think this is a huge deal.
		Robotron 64 has a better viewing angle of the board, allowing you to see much more of what's close to you and farther away.

		The quick version is that both updates of the classic Robotron: 2084, Robotron X on the PSX and Robotron 64 for the Nintendo 64, are fatally flawed, though the latter is a better game than the former.
		Soundwise, Robotron X seems to be the superior, as it has the benefit of CD quality audio and (I believe) a wider array of samples.
		Unfortunately, the speed reaches a point in Robotron 64 that while you might be able to hold the Grunts already present at bay with your blaster, you can't deal with those and the Grunts that warp in at the same time.

		Also Robotron 64 for the Nintendo 64, which made the best use of two thumbsticks on two separate controllers for double-fisted action...way better than Midway's conversion of Robotron 2084 in their Greatest Arcade Hits(?) collection for the same system.
		It's graphics aren't exception (in fact, they're fairly poor by N64 standards), but the gameplay is there, the control is good, there's some nice added features (for some reason, I really like the octagonal levels), and the music is totally addictive.
		It's called Williams Arcade Greatest Hits on the SNES, and frankly as far as controls are concerned, it's just as bad as trying to play Smash TV with the A, B, X, and Y buttons directing your firing instead of a second control stick.

		This is the version of the game that I purchased and I remember not enjoying it, mostly because the camera angles didn't allow you to see enough of the playfield.
		I then later played Robotron 64 and it is much improved in this department, and was a bit more fun than Robotron X. It was a little too easy, in my opinion, but I still had fun blasting away.
		Quality 64 games are too, due to the fact that most of them are rather common.
