		PC Roch Lasalle won here in 1968 by 172 votes.
		Lasalle was re-elected as a PC in 1974, 1979 and 1980 and was appointed minister of supply and services in the 1979 Joe Clark government.
		Lasalle was re-elected in the 1981 byelection and in 1984.

		The preponderance of circumstantial evidence therefore suggests that Roch laSalle, Lapointe (a member of the RCMP) and Frank Majeau (a member of the mob), stole the safe, got the goods on Mulroney, flmailed him and got him to appoint LaSalle to his important position: Minister of Public Works.

		LaSalle's partner Majeau approached MacDonnell Douglas and told their senior executives that for a kickback of $10 million, he would use his influence to ensure they received the contract.
		Of course Mulroney supported LaSalle's 1984 candidacy, even throwing a $20 000 fundraiser for his campaign (LaSalle was still Majeau's partner at the time).

		In 1984 there is one Tory in Quebec, his name is Roch La Salle and he sees this hoard of people and money pouring in in support of this Brian Mulroney.
		His best buddies were Roch LaSalle and Frank Majeau and he and Roch were involved in businesses; Majeau was LaSalle's executive assistant but Majeau's main business was 'prestige entertainment'.
		It was that Roch LaSalle was invited to Quebec City by Mulroney's accountant, Michel Cote, who had just been elected and who had become the Minister of Consumer and Corporate Affairs responsible for the Post Office as well.

		It was a minority government because the Tories won only two of 75 seats in Quebec, leaving Clark with the problem of finding Quebecers for his cabinet from among the slim pickings at his disposal.
		The two elected Quebecers, Roch LaSalle and Heward Grafftey, were automatically in, even though they might not have made Clark's A list had there been a broader choice.
		LaSalle and Grafftey were longtime fixtures in their riding, an advantage no Quebec Conservative holds today.
