Daniel Rocha, an 18-year-old Southeast Austin resident, was fatally shot Thursday night during a struggle with Austin Police Officer Julie Shroeder during a drug sting in his neighborhood.
Rocha was pulled over for suspicion of participating in narcotics activity reported in the neighborhood.
No drugs were found on Rocha's body, although a small amount was found in the vehicle in which he was riding, according to police statements.

Sources close to the investigation say Schroeder thought Rocha was going to surrender voluntarily, but Rocha instead pushed his way out of the rear door of the SUV and into Schroeder, in part by wrapping his arms around her waist and on top of her equipment belt.
The autopsy report also noted that Rocha was carrying a pair of "fl steel 'knuckles'" in his front pocket at the time of his death; and an APD detective told the ME's office that police found a "baggie with a green leafy substance" on the ground near the passenger door of the Suburban.
Indeed, Rocha had been arrested as recently as May 31 for stealing an elderly woman's wallet inside a local McDonald's; he had also been arrested for marijuana possession earlier this year and was on probation for burglarizing a home in Onion Creek last year.

Travis Co. Medical Examiner Robert Bayardo originally reported that Rocha was drug-free the night he was killed during a June 9 encounter with Austin police.
On June 15, Bayardo reported that the results of initial toxicology testing meant that Rocha was drug-free that night.
Initially, Bayardo said there were no scratches, cuts, or bruises on Rocha's body that would indicate there had been a struggle, as the cops have said.
