Straight Dope Staff Report: What's the origin of "Rock, Paper, Scissors"?
Walker claims that the earliest known written record of the game is from around 200 BC in Japan, where the game was (and is) referred to as "Jan-Ken." I found the existence of the Japanese version of the game corroborated elsewhere, although I have yet to find any corroboration for the 200 BC claim.
Walker goes on to suggest that the game migrated to Europe in or by the mid-1700s, where it for some reason came to be associated with one Jean Baptiste Donatien de Vimeur, Comte de Rochambeau.
It is believed that the game spread to the rest of Portugal in the 3rd century BC and to the rest of the Spanish peninsula over the next 50 years.

Even though the Queen’s Rangers hussars apparently were very adept at using their pistols and then falling on opponents with their swords (in true hussar style), this might be a bit fiddly, so either ignore this, or replicate it on a “group” level, if you prefer.
Both sides had a mix of rifles and muskets and for the purposes of this game the only real significance between these is in rate of fire, since the Rebel riflemen appear to have fought primarily as formed units, rather than individuals.
There is also some evidence that German rifles were slightly easier (and therefore quicker) to load, so rule systems should be amended to reflect this – a rate of fire ratio of 5:3:2 (muskets:jager rifles:hunting rifles) would seem to reflect these differences.
