Rock Follies - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Rock Follies, and its sequel, Rock Follies of '77, was an innovative and groundbreaking comedy musical drama shown on British television in the mid 1970s.
The second series, Rock Follies of '77, was a continuation of the first, but industrial action during May of that year at ITV, the commercial channel that aired the show, caused the last few episodes to be postponed until November.
There they meet another Pub Rock band, Rox and Rawls, and Dee is invited up to sing an impromptu number with Rox (Sue Jones-Davies), which works out well.

Doué-la-Fontaine, a few miles south of the river Loire, is one of dozens of towns and villages around the Saumur region of western France in which a hidden troglodytic life lurks beneath the surface.
In the 19th century, half the population still lived "in the rock", though the caves are generally much older- not natural, nor prehistoric, but a man-made by-product of the tufa mining industry that dates from the middle ages.
Against an uneven backdrop of chiselled tufa, it is furnished with cottagey antiques (patchwork quilts on bateau beds, lamps in rock niches); it has a little sit-out terrace cut into the hillside (with troglodyte hutch complete with rabbits) and real troglodytes living in the cave next door.

in an early episode of rock follies, one of the characters was played some led zeppelin on her headphones.
I remember when the first run of Rock Follies '77 was on, one show was cancelled and there was an agonising wait of a few weeks (I think)until it re-started with a compilation of the first two episodes.
I remember Rock Follies fondly from its airing on PBS in 1977, and I was thrilled to find the soundtrack cassette on a visit to London the following year.

It took a quarter century for Rock Follies to get reissued on CD, which is amazing, considering that it was not only a number one charting album in England in 1976 (supplanting a Led Zeppelin album, no less), but actually entered the U.K. charts at number one, and sold enough to generate a follow-up LP.
The album reasserts some solid hard rock credentials with "Taking Pictures," detailing the sleezy side of the music (and movie) business amid some nicely crunchy guitar (by Ray Russell); the related song "Hot Neon" is almost operatic by comparison.
And "Roller Coaster" is a straight-ahead, quick-tempo rock & roll number, with a great (but brief) sax solo from Mackay, all leading to the title track, a bittersweet mid-tempo summation of the series' mood with some elegant synthesizer playing and tasteful string accompaniment over the trio's gorgeous vocals.

In 1973 the second plaintiff, three female actresses, formed a rock group with the assistance of the first plaintiff~ who was their manager and also their composer.
The series was to be part fact and part fiction, the factual part being based on the actresses' own experiences, and was to focus on both the group and the individual members' lives to contrast their collective character with their individual characters.
All these considerations drive me to the conclusion that the Rock Follies series as a whole, and especially the first two episodes, were substantially based on the characters and actual experiences of the Rock Bottom girls and Mr Fraser.

Rea's frankness contrasts with rock people who "don't want to interfere" (but do really) - the worst kind of collaborator, standing mock-humbly at the back of the production meeting, casting their Rock Shadow over the whole proceedings ("don't mind me").
