The School of Rock (2003)   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-10-22)
A wannabe rock star in need of cash poses as a substitute teacher at a prep school, and tries to turn his class into a rock band.
Dewey's audacious plan is to pose as a substitute teacher and use the kids under his tutelage to form the most rocking band who ever were - The School Of Rock - and blow his old band off the stage at the Battle of the Bands.
They rock, too - so many movies about music are brought down by the unremarkable nature of their fictional bands, but if School Of Rock were a real band, man, I'd buy their CD in a heartbeat.

 Gene Simmons Rock School
Certainly, some of the chemistry of "Rock School" is Simmons’ bad-boy image as a man of many women, and in the premiere episode he's seen in a limousine with two leggy blondes, making a devilish face in close-up.
VH1's "Gene Simmons' Rock School" is an outrageously funny half-hour show about a clash of cultures: the blood-spewing Simmons of the rock group KISS and a group of frightened English schoolchildren forced to learn about rock 'n' roll.
But Josh has plenty of rock attitude, and when he hams it up for the video camera while singing along to a rock song, he has the same sweet geeky innocence as the "Star Wars Kid," the Internet sensation who was caught on camera swinging his broom handle like a light saber.

 ROCK SCHOOL
Rock School, an absorbing account of the Philadelphia after-school programme that teaches children to play rock and roll, began life when its director and co-producer, Don Argott, saw a poster proclaiming “The Paul Green School of Rock Music does the music of The Who”.
Three days later he was filming at the school, having convinced its extraordinary teacher and founder that, as a struggling filmmaker, he was worthy of the break.
What isn't necessarily obvious from the film is the school's academic approach: in interview Paul stresses that all the students do scales and learn to read music and that “Rock music is getting to the point where it can start to be looked at in an educational way”.

Various - School Of Rock OST : album review
School Of Rock promises to be another Jack Black tour de force in the cinemas, taking some High Fidelity-style musical cynicism and blending it nicely with a Tenacious D-sized portion of rock.
To glance at the tracklisting is to run through a Who's Who of rock, and one would expect this album to refer youngsters and others alike to essential rock groups of the past 30 years and more.
The album is rock in a nutshell, and despite some gripes with songs that appear in the movie and not here (Smoke On The Water, Highway To Hell...), it would appear to be a purchase-worthy collection of classic and modern music.

 Reason to Rock: School Day
The first two verses describe the oppression of the school day: being subject to authority, working hard at the study of subjects that seem to have no intrinsic interest, the regimented schedule of classes with no more than a brief interlude for lunch, the competition with the jostling crowd at the school.
In particular, there is contrast between the rigid structure of the school routine, and the emotional freedom offered by the rock music and its associated environment: hearing something “really hot,” “feeling the music from head to toe,” and making romance with the one you love.
So we can see that this brief rock song encapsulates the mission of rock music as a liberating force, freeing a generation from a value system that places structure, discipline and rote learning at the top of its pyramid, and releasing it to a new world dominated by passion and feeling.
