Rock climbing is a very popular activity in the Peak District; on warm bank holidays hundreds of climbers can be seen on popular edges such as Stanage or Froggatt.
Generally the climbing style is free climbing (as opposed to aid climbing) and the rock is either gritstone or limestone.
Climbing has been practised all over the Peak District since the late 19th century; James W. Puttrell is generally credited with starting the practice.

Last summer I was away in the Jotunheimen National Park in Norway for mountain walking, scrambling and climbing on the highest tops, including the three hardest routes on Galdhøpiggen (2469m), a traverse of Storjuvtinden (2344m) via its 1km long sharp ridge and Tverråtindan (2309m).
Participants in these activities should be aware of and accept these risks and be responsible for their own actions and involvement.
