	Rock samphire - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
		Samphire, or rock samphire (Crithmum maritimum), the sole species of the genus Crithmum, is an edible wild plant found in coastal regions of mainland Britain.
		To prepare it for the table, samphire is trimmed of its hard root, washed and plunged into boiling water for a few minutes.
		The flavour is highly reminiscent of asparagus, and samphire is sometimes referred to as "poor man's asparagus" (although that name has also been applied to Good King Henry, Hop shoots as well as the leek).

		Marsh samphire on the other hand is found around estuaries where it likes to osmosise (or whatever it is plants do) trace elements.
		I chose the latter with the rock samphire and was knocked out by its strong flavour of parsley and celery, (Well, doh, in my increasing madness, I'd forgotten that Crithmum is related to parsley and carrots.) The salicornia was saltier, like the Asian celery that's around these days, and a little grassy with it.
