  The Old Rockpile
Originally named Civic Stadium, the Rockpile was built as a WPA project, a federally funded make work program administrated by President Franklin D. Roosevelt during the depression years.
Fans flocked to the Rockpile to watch some exiting football back then and in 1949 when talks of the AAFC merging with the established NFL arose, it seemed Civic Stadium and Buffalo, N.Y. were headed into the big time.
The Rockpile sat unused from 1973 till 1979 when minor league baseball returned and was played there until 1988.

Surfrider Foundation's Laguna Chapter - Rockpile
For example, instead of armoring a large part of the beach along the northern half of the cove at Rockpile (from “raftpile” to the “waterfall”) the City is going to extend the existing wall along the top of the bluff.
The City has also decided to move the stairs at Rockpile from their current location (a place that is constantly eroding) south to the location of the goat trails in the middle of the cove, which is on more stable bedrock and will lead the stairs to the sandiest part of the beach.
The good news is that the City has agreed with us and is recommending building new stairs to the south where there is a "goat path" down to a landing on soild bedrock as a replacement for the existing stairs which will continue to be a problem due to the geological instability there.

Squeezing wine from a Rockpile / Remote, hilly and, yes, rocky, Rockpile appellation grabs attention for its intense ...
Established in April 2002, the Rockpile AVA (short for American Viticultural Area) in the northwestern corner of Sonoma County is rapidly gaining recognition as the source of some of California's biggest, richest, most intensely flavored Zinfandels, Syrahs and Petite Sirahs.
Rockpile AVA is located entirely in Sonoma County, running roughly northwestward from Dry Creek Valley to the Mendocino County line, encompassing 15,400 acres on hardscrabble ridgelines above man-made Lake Sonoma.
Since Rockpile's vineyards were established from 1992 on, growers had the advantage of employing modern viticultural practices from the outset and having access to the best clones and choicest budwood.

Seconds of Pleasure - Rockpile - Song Listings
During the late '70s, Rockpile was considered one of the great rock & roll bands, earning a reputation for blowing away every headlining act they played with, and they were just as good on record, acting as the backing band for solo albums by the group's co-leaders, Nick Lowe and Dave Edmunds.
Not what was expected of Rockpile in 1980, perhaps, but time has been nothing but kind to this record and, judged on its own merits, it's one of hell of a good time.
Rockpile didn't leave a large recorded legacy, but nearly everything they did was great, which is easier to see now, after all the initial negative reviews and dashed expectations have faded, leaving behind just the music -- and, frankly, rock & roll doesn't get better than this.

Heisler Park is home to a special surf break called Rockpile that is unique because of the rocky shoreline and its striking visual setting.
Many of the proposed renovations for the Park are supported by the Laguna Beach Chapter of the Surfrider Foundation, such as improved ADA access and efforts to improve landscaping along the bluffs.

In one fashion or another, the word "Rockpile" is included in the majority of the nine vineyards planted within the appellation: Gary Branham has Branham's Rockpile Vineyard; Rod and Cathy Park own Rockpile Vineyard; Thom and Linda Mauritson have Mauritson's Rockpile Ridge Vineyard; Marge and Chris Mauritson farm High Rocky Ridge Vineyards; Jack Florence, Jr.
It is difficult to generalize about the Rockpile AVA because the terrain is so varied, with dips and swales, outcroppings and drop-offs.

While I am generally supportive of the City's plan to renovate Heisler Park and believe that some of the proposed plans will improve the park, I am opposed to the construction of a seawall/bulkhead at Rockpile Beach that is being proposed as Alternative 1 for that part of the park.
Heisler Park is defined by the natural character of its coastline and the creation of a large fake rock wall is not in keeping with the park's character.
This alternative will allow the Rockpile area to evolve naturally, will reduce disruption of the natural sediment supply and will maintain the park's character.
