Rocks Push - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The Rocks Push was a notorious gang, which dominated the Sydney Rocks area ("The Rocks") of Sydney, Australia from 1870s to the end of the 1890s.
One of the most famous haunts of the Rocks Push was Harrington Place, also known as the "Suez Canal" (supposedly a pun on "sewers"), one of the most unsavoury places in Sydney in its time.
During the period when the Rocks Push was active, such gang members were also known as "larrikins", but their behaviour bore little in common with larrikinism as it is commonly understood today.

During the late 1800s, the areas was dominated by a gang known as the Rocks Push.
In 1968, the state government gave control of The Rocks to the Sydney Cove Redevelopment Authority, with the intention of demolishing all the original buildings, re-developing them as high-density residential dwellings.
Today the Rocks is a partly gentrified area, but still contains a significant proportion of Housing Commission properties, and there is still a significant problem of urban poverty in this district.

Dauphas said his team was able to identify the rocks as sedimentary by measuring subatomic variations, or isotopes, in the composition of the iron they contained.
The rocks used in the study were collected over the years from the southwest coast of Greenland and Akilia Island, a remote outpost that turned into a research hotspot in the mid-1990s.
Rocks in the formation — believed to have been formed shortly after the last major asteroid impact 3.8 billion years ago — have been intensely studied over the past decade to see if they contain evidence of life.

Rock of ages may turn clock back - Science - www.theage.com.au
Scientists at the University of Chicago report in yesterday's issue of the journal Science that the rocks may have once been in a prehistoric ocean, but they were cooked at high temperature under pressure, which drastically changed their chemistry.
But by using mass spectrometry, researchers said, they found atomic signatures in the rocks indicating they were sedimentary - the type of rock that would form along rivers, in lakes and in oceans - and could host bacteria or some other microscopic form of early life.
Professor Dauphas said his team was able to identify the rocks as sedimentary by measuring subatomic variations, or isotopes, in the composition of the iron they contained.
