New Zealand is in the process of addressing many of the Maori issues and encouraging them to take pride in their culture and history.
New Zealand may not be plagued by mosquitos or some of the other insects we have but they make up for it with sand flies, two weeks after I was home I still had marks from those bites - they hurt and they itch.

As well as Auckland, the North Island has two more of New Zealand's four main cities, Wellington which is the capital (and the southernmost national capital in the world), and Hamilton a little south of Auckland which isn't on this map because it's not much of a tourist destination.
New Zealand doesn't have fireflies but it does have glow-worms, light-emitting larvae which live inside caves or forest grottos, dangling sticky threads from the ceiling to catch flying insects attracted to the light.
As far as wildlife is concerned, New Zealand was a paradise for birds before humans arrived, unfortunately many of them were wiped out either directly or by the animals which were brought into the country, and many of the rest are nocturnal like the national bird the kiwi, making them difficult to see.

Because little is known of population levels and habitat use of porcupine in Rocky Mountain National Park, this study would enable the park to effectively manage for healthy populations of this species.
The goal for Rocky Mountain National Park’s Inventory and Monitoring program is to determine the status of at least 90% of vertebrate species in the park.

The fiord is rich in flora and fauna, New Zealand Fur Seals and Fiordland Crested Penguins can be seen on many of the small islets in the entrance of the fiord.
At 421 metres deep Doubtful is the deepest of the fiords and is long and winding with three distinct “arms” and several outstanding waterfalls in the area from Deep Cove to the open ocean, a distance of around 40.4 kilometres.
Bottlenose dolphins, New Zealand fur seals and Fiordland crested penguins are resident in the fiord and can be viewed up close from the launch cruises or kayak trips.

I had flown out to Denver the previous week to meet with the guys from Rocky Mountain Riverboards and go run one of their favorite sections on the Colorado river, but a freak blizzard shut that trip down the day of our scheduled run.
That’s the other thing about this river, the scenery is lush, with mossy boulders, a lot of riverside caves (one spot far right on the upper 1/3 of the run to watch out for), and even cows who mooed curiously as we swam by.
During a slow stretch we were noticing a couple of new houses that have gone in since we ran it last, and Docta P pointed out an orchard with a bunch of trees containing some sort of white blossoms.
