The Rocky and Bullwinkle Show - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The Rocky and Bullwinkle Show is the collective name for two separate American television animated series (Rocky and His Friends and The Bullwinkle Show) that originally aired from 1959 to 1964.
Rocky and Bullwinkle enjoyed great popularity during the 1960s, and is still found in reruns in the United States.
In one common introduction, Rocky would be interrupted by Bullwinkle's cry of "Hey, Rocky, watch me pull a rabbit out of my hat." Undaunted by Rocky's response ("Again?"), Bullwinkle then pulls out something preposterous, such as the head of a rhinoceros.

Don Markstein's Toonopedia: Rocky and Bullwinkle
Rocky & His Friends, which aired on ABC between 1959 and '61, was both a better show than its earlier counterpart, and a better-known one.
Rocky the Flying Squirrel (aka Rocket J. Squirrel) and his buddy, Bullwinkle J. Moose, repeatedly got involved in outlandishly silly adventures, full of cliffhangers and slam-bang action, and the adventures all had the same pair of bad guys — Boris Badenov and Natasha Fatale.
Voice actors June Foray (Tweety Bird's Granny), Bill Scott (George of the Jungle), and Paul Frees (Ludwig von Drake) in the major roles (Rocky/Natasha, Bullwinkle, and Boris, respectively); and Hans Conried, Daws Butler, William Conrad, Charles Ruggles, and Edward Everett Horton in the minor ones, brought the clever and sometimes slyly subversive scripts to life.

Were Rocky and Bullwinkle vaguely amusing instead of banal, dim, and sophomoric, perhaps the scene would work, but it's surrounded by jokes that fall as flat as a squirrel who's forgotten how to fly.
Rocky (still voiced by June Foray) and Bullwinkle have been in exile since their show was cancelled by NBC in 1964, and they live off meager royalty checks (a mere three and a half cents), while their Narrator has moved in with his mother, forced to describe her every move.
But once Rocky and Bullwinkle are freed from their cels, so to speak, the movie becomes nothing but a litany of wretched puns bound to a familiar, moribund plot.

Jay Ward's "Rocky and Bullwinkle" (which ran from 1961 to 1964) satirized Cold War paranoia, rah-rah patriotic spirit and the general idiocy of mass culture, all in the form of a Saturday afternoon serial -- one cliffhanger guaranteed per episode.

The animation is first-rate, the acting over the top without ever losing its footing and the old-fashioned esprit of the original survives the transition to celluloid intact if tempered with a dash of modernity (faxes, e-mail and a very funny parody of the "Cops" TV show figure prominently).
