Rod Argent - Biography - AOL Music
Keyboardist/songwriter Rod Argent spent the '60s as a crucial part of underappreciated British Invasion popsters the Zombies, and later moved on to embrace album rock as leader of his own band, Argent.
Argent the band remained their main focus even after "Time of the Season" belatedly became the Zombies' biggest hit in early 1969.
Argent disbanded in 1976, and Rod immersed himself in session work in an effort to expand his musical range.

 Argent
Rod has always felt that 'Argent' and 'Ring of Hands' were the band's best two albums, even though they are the least known.
Argent were due to embark on a big tour, and the idea was to promote the new album, which, incidentally, was being recorded at Abbey Road in an attempt to widen and deepen the group's sound.
Rod and Russ wrote several songs together for the first time at the end of 1997, and consequently there is talk of possible recording this year, and maybe even a few weeks touring the next!

The Zombies   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-10-19)
The Zombies were led by keyboard whiz Rod Argent, but about half of the songs (and some quite good ones!) were written by bassist Chris White.
In late 1968 Argent formed a band of that name, which until breaking up in 1976 did enjoy some commercial success on both sides of the Atlantic - their big hit was 1972's "Hold Your Head Up." White was heavily involved as a producer and songwriter, but didn't perform with the band.
When Argent breaks from the New Age thing to deliver a sparkling, slowed-down 3/4-time classical piano solo ("A 4th Gymnopedie," reprised with synth and sax on "In Memory"), it has far more emotional impact than any bombastic, over-orchestrated nightmare you'd find on an ELP album.

 Rod Argent
While still attending school at St. Albans, keyboardist Rod Argent formed The Zombies with some of his classmates.
The Zombies parted amicably in 1967, and Rod went on to form the inventively-named project Argent.
In subsequent years, Rod Argent has remained active as a producer, composer and musician -- occasionally pursuing a solo career, doing session work on other artist's records (including piano on The Who's Who Are You), and, on the more unsavory end of things, writing football anthems and working with Andrew Lloyd Webber.

Rod was kind to get in touch in early 1998 and offer this nice synopsis of his musical career these past twenty years.
In fact, I played keyboards on all the Lloyd Webber stuff from "Variations" in 1977, up to "Phantom of the Opera" in 1985.
I know he's gathering material for a new album, and I think that Renaissance records may be putting out his last album "Echo Bridge".

 Rod Argent
Argent - who wrote "She's Not There," "Tell Her No" and "Time of the Season" - formed the harder-edged Argent in 1969 with guitarist Russ Ballard and had a Top 10 hit in 1972 with "Hold Your Head Up." Blunstone, meanwhile, enjoyed a moderately successful solo career and recorded several Argent-penned tracks.
Argent sat down recently with Pause & Play to play "10 questions" via e-mail, touching on the Blunstone-Argent collaboration, their current tour and even the dreaded mad-cow disease.
Argent - "The songs were all written by me. The idea was to renew the partnership that we had in the Zombies; and I must say that it's great to have Colin singing my songs again.

Rod Argent was the leader of the English rock band Argent.
Argent, born June 14, 1945, had been in the Zombies, a successful British Invasion band known for the 1964 smash "She's Not There" and "Tell Her No," which came out a year later.
Argent continued to write, scoring an instrumental hit in 1978 with "Argentine Melody", the TV theme for the Argentine World Cup soccer contest, and writing a musical, "Masquerade", which was staged in London.

If that's true, I think this is the Argent album that was originally released in '78 or '79, possibly under his full name ('solo'), since the two guitarists who had replaced Russ Ballard on "Circus" had left, gutting the band.
Rod probably didn't want to take chances with the same thing happening with his band.
The co-writing of Rod's longtime collaborator and former fellow Zombie Chris White is glaringly absent here, and the tunes are mostly lackluster ballads, flaccid Elton John ripoffs, and semi-fusion, with only hints of the fire, and none of the spine-tingling chords that marked Rod's earlier work.

Out Of The Shadows is the first time publicly that Rod Argent and Colin Blunstone have worked together since The Zombies, but in reality Rod worked with Colin on a lot of Colin's albums in the early seventies.
Colin's vocal talents have never been in doubt, but when aligned to Rod Argent's songwriting and keyboard skills - it becomes a very special union.
The Zombies have a wonderful legacy behind them and both Colin Blunstone and Rod Argent are the two most instantly recognisable members of the band.

Rod was so excited about this new ARGENT that he refused an offer to join YES after WAKEMAN's departure!
In '75 ARGENT made the album "Circus" but despite good critics the sales were poor.

Of course, I am going to fall even farther afield than some of the other opinions here, but I really like the Argent albums after Russ Ballard left, "Circus" and "Counterpoints" which were Argent at their most zealously progressive.
Argent needs an updated Anthology that improves the audio and adds a few cuts that better represent the band.
Argent were a strange band, in general: while they started out being HEAVILY melodic and Zombie-esque, Rod and Russ slowly started to move in a more progressive direction after their debut.
