Die Hard With A Vengeance happens in New York City, and is based largely on some of the characters created by Steven de Souza and Jeb Stuart (adapted from Nothing Lasts Forever by Roderick Thorp, a 1979 novel).
In Die Hard, Hans Gruber uses it to stall the local police and to bring in the Federal Bureau of Investigation, and Simon Peter Gruber uses it to put New York City police authorities off his trail in the 1995 movie.
