ACT New Zealand - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Her presence is seen by many as a move by the ACT Party's Rodney Hide to broker a coalition of opposition parties to contest the 2008 election against the Labour minority Government.
Even if Rodney Hide does retain the seat for ACT, there is still the matter of the party list vote, Rodney Hide would become a centre-right equivalent to Jim Anderton's current status on the other side of the house, as sole remnant of a former plausible coalition partner for a major political party.
If Hide is able to only retain his seat, there will be a further reduction in parliamentary services funding for ACT, as there was after the debacle of the New Zealand general election 2005.

Rodney Hide AKA Big Rod (born 16 December 1956) is a New Zealand politician, leader of the political party ACT New Zealand and Member of Parliament for Epsom.

Hide once said about this incident "A doors gotta be wide to fit Mr Hide." Rodney also has a special seat in parliment built just for him because his bottom is just to gosh darn big for a normal seat.

Rodney Hide decided to stand against National's Richard Worth, a patrician lawyer who was being touted by his party as a high-flyer.
Hide enjoyed the street corner campaigning and the low-tax/high personal responsibility ACT message went across particularly well in the affluent leafy suburbs, so much so that he trimmed the National majority from 19,000 to 1,900.

That's because Hide has shown himself to be a strong campaigner - not least through his weblog, where Hide has clearly got the hang of things.
Franks' urgent appeal was presumably partially prompted by a Herald story yesterday headed Hide hits the front in race for Act's top job, which said that Hide was "way ahead of his fellow MPs in the increasingly divisive contest for the Act leadership, according to a poll asking who would make the best leader".
There was more statistical abuse in the Herald this week in the form of a stern editorial on the importance of discipline in schools, which quotes "a Maxim Institute study that found three-quarters of parents rated lack of discipline their biggest concern about schools".

Meanwhile in Mr Hide's case when busted in a clearly compromising position in relation to his trip to Fiji by Mr Tamihere and Mr Cosgrove, rather than apologising for his apparent error in judgement it appears Mr Hide chose to attack one of the victims.
