 Rodolphe Kreutzer
During and after the Revolution, Kreutzer seems to have adapted himself with facility to his changing surroundings; there is no noticeable break in his productivity and his general artistic success.
Kreutzer was, indeed, a musician who lived in and for his art; transient externalities influenced him only in so far as they furnished new material for his facile fancy to work with.
The teachings of Viotti were now bearing fruit; Kreutzer’s brilliant and fascinating style won the enthusiastic admiration and confidence of the students, and placed him in the front rank of contemporary virtuosi.

 Elibron: Title Info Page
A student of Stamitz, Rodolphe Kreutzer was growing out of his "child prodigy" phase and had entered a career as a composer and soloist when his parents abruptly died within three months of each other.
The precise role played by Marie Antoinette in Kreutzer's rise to fame is open to question, but his early operas did receive their first performances during her reign.
Though Kreutzer played solo concerts until a carriage accident ended his career, he thought of himself mainly as an opera composer; in that light, it seems cruel that his operas are rarely performed today.

in search of lost time : Beethoven Sonata
It was nevertheless Kreutzer's protégé Lambert Massart who was to become a vital link in the tradition of the work, playing it himself (with Liszt as a partner) and teaching it to his pupils at the Paris Conservatoire, notably Wieniawski and Kreisler.
Beethoven's sonatas occupied a important place in Wieniawski's repertoire and, according to contemporary reports, he rendered the Kreutzer in an innovatory manner, full of romantic passion and lyricism in the outer movements and with exquisite taste and delicacy in the variations.
When embarking upon the Kreutzer, Beethoven knew that he was working towards this pre-existing Finale and he took care to integrate the new movements with it and to proportion them accordingly.

Now, Kreutzer's harmonies are clear to me, and that fact alone makes them more enjoyable to play.
