Montreal Mirror : The Kristian Perspective
French Canadians are always seeking ways to become distinct.
For example, in the ’70s, there was a slender, massively endowed politician from Lotbinière named Rodrigue Biron who tried to singlehandedly revolutionize men’s fashion by sporting the “Onassis tie knot.” He went over-the-top, skipping the final stuffing-through business.
The gears of innovation never stop turning here.

 Bloc Québécois Leadership Campaign
Although he ran against Gauthier, Duceppe was viewed by some of his caucus colleagues as too authoritarian for the job.
This time out, though, the 49-year-old Bloc house leader, enjoying the support of 23 party MPs, quickly emerged as the front-runner over fellow Bloc MPs Francine Lalonde and Pierrette Venne, Bloc policy adviser Daniel Turp, and Rodrigue Biron and Yves Duhaime, two former Parti Québécois cabinet ministers.

The less attractive side of right-wing politics, as in proposals to curb immigration or to give preference to particular religious or social views, were generally rebuffed.
But the greatest enthusiasm was shown whenever a speaker railed against the "arrogance" of the federal government or denounced "unaccountable judges," and the most sustained applause of all was reserved for the radical Quebec nationalists, Jean Allaire and Rodrigue Biron, with whom the party hopes to establish a beachhead in the province.
But if the convention is any guide, this will not be the democratic-accountability party many Reformers might have hoped, or the limited- government party that many others on the right would prefer.

One would be to make government more directly accountable to citizens, perhaps by somehow increasing the power of individual MPs.
And the fourth, "rebalancing federalism," mainly in the direction of boosting provincial powers, is the key to attracting the "soft sovereigntists and discontented federalists" Manning has been courting in Quebec - with scant success beyond the recruitment of former Parti Québécois cabinet minister Rodrigue Biron to the united alternative steering committee.
Manning admits that by wiping out the deficit the Liberals may have stolen the march on the fiscal front.

Lastly, the Liberals' coup d'eclat with the Clarity Act, which Reform was obliged, after some hesitation, to endorse, ended any hope of an alliance with Quebec nationalists -- confirmed this week by the resignation of Rodrigue Biron, the former Parti Quebecois cabinet minister, from the UA's steering committee.
If the tent is somewhat smaller now, it is the sturdier for it: a coalition, in essence, of moderate Reformers and right-wing Conservatives, the kind now found mainly in provincial politics.

This Unione Nationale party, headed by Rodrigue Biron, captured a quarter of Quebecers' votes, taking away from the Liberals, causing a split which launched the PQ into power.
It is interesting to note that the Unione Nationale faded away into oblivion and Rodrigue Biron, the smooth-talker we placed our trust in, ended up with a position within the PQ.

That is what makes the party's ill-considered decision to recognize Quebeckers as "a people," overwhelmingly endorsed at last weekend's convention, so puzzling.
This is clearly an attempt to make inroads with Quebec nationalists - Preston Manning tried the same thing last spring when he invited sovereigntist Rodrigue Biron to address the United Alternative convention - but it is both dangerously misguided.
The NDP policy paper is silent on this crucial question.
